  • My home will not hold paint for more than 3 or 4 years. Why does it keep peeling?

Moisture. Showers we take, and running the dishwasher all increase humidity. A family of four produces about 2 gallons of water per day. This water can get trapped behind the exterior of your home. When warmer temperatures arrive, the sun pulls this vapor through the exterior wall and creates a water bubble that can eventually burst and cause your paint to peel. We can recommend ways to slow this process and extend the life of your painted surfaces.

  • What brands of paint do you use and are there "green" alternatives?

American Painting Company, Inc strives to use top-of-the-line paints and stains from Benjamin Moore, California Paints, Sherwin-Williams, and Cabot's Stains. They offer low and zero VOCs (Volatile Organic Compound) creating a lower carbon footprint. We stay away from "cheap" brands of paint that you find at the big box stores.

  • What type of painting do you do?

Interior and exterior painting. At American Painting Company, Inc, we have a large base of residential and commercial customers.

  • My home has rotted areas. Are you able to fix these areas or do I have to hire a carpenter?

American Painting Company, Inc offers carpentry services to take care of these problems. Depending on the size of the damage, our team offers fixed bid pricing or a time and materials option. Where there is a lot of rot and the paint keeps peeling, sometimes it’s cost-effective to replace siding with a quality product like pre-primed rough cedar or fiber cement composite materials.

  • My home is newer and the trim is rotting. Why is this happening?

Many homes built in the last 20 years used finger-jointed pine (young softwood glued together in sections). Rainwater can penetrate the joints of the pine and causes this soft wood to rot quickly. American Painting Company, Inc recommends replacing it with a PVC composite material that can be painted and will not rot. A popular supplier is called Azek.

  • I've seen and heard ads for paints that are guaranteed to last for a lifetime. What do you know about these paints, and do you apply them?

Specialty coating paints are unverified. They are expensive and are only as good as the surface they are applied to. In our opinion, these companies cannot provide a lifetime product. Benjamin Moore is owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Group. They don't offer a lifetime product warranty, so why would some local paint vendor?

  • When is the best time of year to paint?

With today's water-based latex paint technology, the window is greater for the exterior painting season. Most brands offer paints that can be applied down to 35 degrees. At American Painting Company, Inc, our exterior season usually goes from mid-April through late October and sometimes into early November.
